Penang Streetware - II AAaw
George Town – capital of Malaysia’s ‘heaven island’, Penang – will continue to be the focus of research of the first AA Alumni Research Programme. This platform activates a design studio that questions the generic term of the street and foresees opportunities within the protected core of Penang - UNESCO World Heritage site.
AA alumni worldwide and AA teaching staff create a Research Studio that collaborate with a group of architecture students from the local University, USM in order to help the exploration of AA ideas in the rich cultural context. Studio work will combine emerging digital tools and material experimentations that would be presented to relevant personalities in Penang followed by a publication distributed mainly in Europe and Asia.
AA connects the AA network with the local strength in order to explore the fusion of traditional and contemporary architecture suggesting a direction for the twenty-first-century development of George Town.
