Saint Petersburg is only 300 years old but is perceived as one of the oldest cities in Europe. The over-preservation that freezes the city is a consequence of a specific historical shift. The project proposes to reevaluate its main historical contexts, previous ways of dealing with memory, preservation and reconstruction. My design is a sequence of unbuilt stage sets. It is a journey through the process of construction and reconstruction in which the individual moves from the actual city to a more personal and fragmented one.

The film is a window connecting space and spatiality, record and memories, reality and fiction. It resorts to complex topology of cinematic space-time to interconnect the collapsed gates from different stages of urban remake, abyssal archives of records, theatrical displays of alternative paths and the streets of time. Moving through animated drawings and stage-sets, we are confronted with the new vision of the dynamic historical city, and consider the possibility of using urban records as generative tools.
