THE MECHANISM OF HUMANISM -

As the spatial dimension became bigger the question posed is not about how to improve it in terms of quality but how to make it faster. The quality of the space does not really matter. If you move inside a train or a car, you can barely understand where you are. The space of the travel even if it is a real dimension it is sensed as virtual. Do we really are here? Does it really matter where we are? What happened to the tangible space? How can we define the identity of the city we live? What happens when we stop?

In Paris and in the classical city the people are at the centre of attention for the city the lived in. The city was created to be appreciated from a human point of view. The perspective was the way to address the urban construction until the modern age.

It is a city thought to be admired, a city made to be walked, where each door or window can make you stop. It becomes scenography in an urban scale. It is, though, a city of the past.

Hong Kong is a new metropolis. It represents this new engineering era. It is a city construct to make you arrive where you want in less time possible. It is still a peculiar architecture but where the columns became a pipe and the windowsill is an air conditioning plug in. You cannot stop, you are not tempted to stop. The strong identity of the city cannot be appreciated from the inside. What if you create a space, an engineering mechanism which is a stage where you are both an active actor of a scenography and an observer. A machine that makes you be the vanishing point of the city.

Square Introversion - Representation of an urban identity

The image represent the square of the squares. A new uniform representation of the Parisian Royal Square. Where the city reveals itself.

Experiencing the centre

The project aims to recreate a quality space where the humans are the centre. The view represent the interaction between the human point of view and monumental scale.

Spatial Configuration

The arrangement of the different layers of the pattern creates both a different spatial configuration and a different enclosure towards the outside.

Experiential Configuration

The project becomes not only a stage to perceive the city but a scenography of experiences.

Constructing through Layers

this exploded axo shows the layering of the different patterns mould around the circulation path.

Diagram of the ground

On the ground level the panels are organise to create tow different situations. Two inner squares and two passages. The density increases towards the inside to block the perception of the crossroad while the outside it is more porous.

Creating the vanishing point

The optical Illusion

Thanks to the alignment of the panels towards the vanishing point, the structure suddenly disappears becoming a stage to admire the city.

The experiential Machine

Scenography of a city

The section shows how the structure it is not only a stage but a scenography. The pedestrian will go through a sequences of different moments, different actions and different perceptions. Every step can be a surprise, every step can convince you to stop and admire
